Roxanne was born 2/3/2009 and she is a Purebred Persian Calico.  She is little cutie pie!  Roxanne's pictures do not show her full coat.  She had to be shaved down in April because of ringworm.  With a full coat she would look 3 times this size because she is so fluffy.  Roxanne is very active and loves to play with people, toys and other cats.  She has the cutest little expressions on her face.

This is Roxanne's story and how she came into our Rescue Organization:

Roxanne was originally purchased from a Breeder as a "Show Quality" kitten by a very nice woman who was undergoing Chemotherapy (and would be for the next 5 years).  She wanted a kitty to keep her company and comfort her during this time.  The very nice lady that bought Roxanne liked the “Persian Look” but knew nothing about that particular breed.  At the time Roxanne was purchased, the Breeder handed the woman a bottle of Conofite (antifungal) and told the woman to apply the Conofite to Roxanne’s ears twice daily to keep her ears clean.  Clean from what? – she did not say.  Two weeks later the woman undergoing Chemotherapy broke out with ringworm all over her body and face.  She phoned the Breeder asking the Breeder to take back the kitten because she had ringworm and the kitten needed to be removed from the home immediately in order to sanitize the house.  The Breeder would not take back the kitten and the woman and her husband proceeded to try and find someone (even asked the vet) to take Roxanne so they didn’t have to take her to an Animal Shelter or Animal Control where they were told she would most likely be euthanized because they don’t usually deal with sick kitties, especially when it takes so long to clear them.

The Veterinary Clinic called me and asked if I could take the kitten.  Because I knew the woman needed to remove her from the house immediately due to her compromised immune system (from Chemo), I agreed to pick her up and immediately took her to Paws’ Veterinarian where we shaved her down.  I have had Roxanne for over 2 months.  When I picked her up she was covered with Ringworm and for the next 6 weeks I bathed her every 3 days with Ketachlor Shampoo and gave Itraconazol (very expensive but not as detrimental on the kitties system as other drugs available) orally on a daily basis.  Paws and its volunteers do not spare expense when it comes the welfare and wellbeing of our foster animals.  The most difficult part was keeping myself and all my other foster kitties from contracting ringworm as it is highly contagious, and I am extremely susceptible to getting it.  It was the longest 6 weeks for both me and Roxanne.

With everything said and done, Roxanne is clear of ringworm, has been vaccinated, spayed and out of isolation.  Roxanne plays very well with the other kitties and is full of energy!

Roxanne's adoption fee is $500.00 because she is a Purebred Persian with papers showing her lineage.  Long haired cats do require more maintenance than a short haired cat. Therefore, she will require regular brushing and combing. Be aware that Persians shed their coat year round and you must be prepared to deal with cat hair on a regular basis. Being a Persian will also require regular cleaning of her eyes.
